  • @bobheads thanks for sharing. I agree that playing stuff (not just drums) in “live” gives results that are difficult (for sure more painful) to achieve by step recording. My workflow typically involves that concept. I play it in on whatever midi controller is appropriate, then fix what I don’t like to compensate for my…
  • @Lurmish very nice track. But I am not at all surprised by it being entirely NS2. I do everything 100% ns2 with 99% obsidian and Slate. Keep them coming please. The world needs to know what is possible.
  • Thank you sir. As always your kind words are much appreciated, as is listening to your music.
  • I will sign on to ANY model that keeps NS2 moving forward. Ns2 + obsidian + Slate is untouchable on iOS.
  • https://apps.apple.com/us/app/de-esser-auv3-audio-plugin/id1462171273. I played around with putting it on just the modulator audio track vs the vocoder output. Not sure if one is better than the other, just different. I recorded directly into NS2 using the iPad microphone. Probably would sound better if I sang the correct…
  • Your assumption is correct. There is a single midi track (the “none” track discussed in the other thread) that hold the notes for both carrier and modulator. Midi track sends to carrier and modulator tracks. Don’t output the audio of these to main. The audio from those is sent to another “none” track with vocoder as audio…
  • Thanks @SlapHappy ! The text reading yes. The vocal lines that went into vocoder I brought into obsidian sampler. That allows for mono legato. I.e. the sample does not retrigger on new notes if you overlap them. You can have the carrier in either legato or poly. If the carrier is legato you can glide between notes without…
  • Check it out. Not a lot of vocoder. It’s hard to make sound good. https://www.blipinteractive.co.uk/community/index.php?p=/discussion/3228/all-day-s-child-first-time-out-using-a-vocoder/p1?new=1
  • Sorry, An NS2 track whose instrument is “none”. As opposed to Obsidian, Slate etc. The reason DerVoco works is because of its “input mode”. Does not need midi in this mode, just a Bb audio effect. The left audio input becomes the carrier and the right audio input becomes the modulator. So you can control either via midi at…
  • Excellent! This is kind of like a subscription without the evil part. You are not automatically charged every year. I love it. Speaking for myself, I am ready to buy the next 2 years of upgrades now =)
  • Did it! Flexible and sounds great. Key was using DerVoco vocoder. * Create a “none” track and add DerVoco as an au effect. Select “input mode” * Create an Obsidian sampler track to hold your raw voice recording (the modulator). Remove key tracking so that different notes dont “transpose” the voice. I.e. every key plays…
  • @SlapHappy so you used voicesynth as an instrument in ns? Or as an effect? What did you record In audio share? The raw voice or vocoded voice? Trying to get my old brain around this. Thanks for your help.
  • UPDATE! Alas I did not actually figure it out. I thought I was getting midi to the au via NS2 but it was actually getting there directly from the external keyboard controller. Realized this when I finally recorded something in the track and it did not make it to the au :'( So I’m back to.. is there any kind of workaround…
  • I was able to get midi into Voice Synth as an audio effect in the Obsidian track. I found a MIDI “source” setting in VS. This actually surprised me because I have tried to get midi into other audio effects without success. I did not think NS2 allowed that.
  • Never mind. I think I figured it out.
  • I am taking a road trip in a few weeks. Gonna add this to my playlist. Great mix (wish my skills in this area were nearly as good) and the whole cruising-down-the-highway-in-a-convertible-with-the-top-down vibe. Thanks for sharing.
  • but it doesn't do one simple thing: it doesn't edit MIDI Not sure what you mean by that. One of the very best things about NS2 for me is the extreme ease and accuracy of midi editing. I myself don’t like the grab and drag method of note editing. I always end up inadvertently moving notes left/right when I intended up/down…
  • That pretty much sums up this entire thread :)
  • Two thoughts: 1) I am no fan of the outrageous cut Apple takes. But to dismiss the subscription idea on moral grounds just because you don’t want to pay Apple seems to be cutting off your nose to spite your face. It seems there are distinct financial benefits to it for the developer. When the money is secondary to the…
  • Nice! Weird that I just put up a piece on the same subject matter only a completely different style and direction. I love music that tells a story or takes you somewhere. You have done the latter quite well. Thanks for sharing.
  • Ahh. Misunderstood. I thought you meant Apple offering subscription at all. My bad.
  • I hear you but think of it this way……. “Precious” did not need maintenance and would never stop working because of an OS update. And imagine if “Precious” got upgraded regularly to make you love it even more. Are you emotionally attached to Netflix and iCloud? I doubt it. I only pay for them because I get something I want…

  • @"Blip Interactive" 1. Thank (fill in preferred deity here) you are still here! I have been worried sick that I would lose my only viable means of making music on an iPad. Solid, efficient, stable, flexible, intuitive and untouchable workflow. Thank you thank you for renewing hope! 2. I will pay for a subscription right…
  • Nice stuff. Irish EDM! Very enjoyable and satisfying. Thanks for sharing.👍👍

  • What the world needs is more of this kind of self indulgence. Dude you can PLAY! More. Please.
  • @Cray23 . Your desire for a hardware version of ns2 intrigues me. I would think such a thing would be orders of magnitude more expensive than software. You would have to build out the underlying audio and midi frameworks from scratch. Fixing bugs and adding features would be near impossible once it’s out the door. On the…
  • @SlapHappy You are of course correct. It was my paranoia taking control of the iPad keyboard :# Apologies.
  • Such sadness if true. Seeing the writing on the wall, I have spent the last month looking high and low for another way to work. Everything I try I end up back in ns2. Cubasis3 does a lot but lack of tempo track and inability to map cc to anything are show stoppers for me. Audio Evolution has come a long way but also…
