Re funding: I think the Wotja model makes sense for large complex applications. You pay a yearly subscription, and you get all the updates for that year (Jan 1 - Dec 31). If you stop paying, you can still use the features you've got, but you stop getting new features. That gives an incentive to the devs to keep building…
