Update on Step Poly Arp - I've found the problem, which was due to the way I check for the number of MIDI inputs the Audio Unit has. It's an easy fix rather than some major architectural problem but I'll hang back a bit longer on releasing it so I can gather a few more bits and pieces into the same update.

Sounds like they've been given custom names. Try this: * Go to Obsidian's PERFORM page * Tap on the hamburger button (top right) and choose the macro control you want to change * Choose 'Rename' * Delete the custom name and tap OK

Are there any Audio Units in your project?

OK, I've spoken to the developer of BeatHawk and they say it seems to be working in NS2. They did add, 'Note that Note Repeat is not a toggle parameter, the user needs to keep the button engaged.' so maybe it's just a misunderstanding about how BeatHawk's UI works? The SPA is an NS2 problem so I'll be looking into that…

Thanks for the report. Difficult for me to work this one out as NS2 doesn't do anything special as far as I know. I haven't heard anything from Syntronik yet but I suspect they'll have a much better chance of figuring out what's going on from their end. If I hear back from them and there's something I need to do then I…

Just an update - I've given a code for NS2 to the developers of EGDR808 and I'm waiting to hear back to see if it's my problem, their problem or some mix of the two.

This sounds not dissimilar to the problem with Step Poly Arp, although I couldn't be sure without further investigation. I've contacted the developers of both Beat Hawk and Step Poly Arp and hopefully we can solve it between us.

iOS sends a message to the app when a new Audio Unit is installed. Unfortunately, whenever NS2 gets this message and asks for the list of plugins, the new list seems to be the same as the old one. This is one of a few issues I found during development so I thought it would be a good idea to list them in the manual:…

I've got a note on my list to add those links back to the new site, but in the meantime the links posted above are the correct ones.

@anickt - Yes, I got your project - thanks for that, very good of you to put the time in. I've had it open in a window for a couple of days now but every time I try to start looking into in depth, something else comes along! What I've managed to find so far is that there's a temp file of zero size in there. To avoid your…

Dendy's given me a summary. Sounds like it works in other hosts but not in NS2 so it's my problem and I'll look into it. Sorry, when a thread gets too long I tend to stop reading. A clear succinct report of the problem accompanied with any other info you feel might be important is much better. I think someone else has…

Thanks guys! I'll admit I've been fretting a little over the various things people have said are missing (because they're right in general) so it cheers me to hear the flip side too.
-
Yep, sounds like a bug, thanks for the report. I've made a note of it, sacked the beta testers and replaced them with monkeys so we should be fine going forward.

Some good suggestions there. I agree with what many have said about all things AU and feel that their implementation could definitely do with a second pass. Getting to grips with them has been a learning experience for me too and I've never been able to feel like I could step back and say 'job well done'. I'm sure we'll…

OK I'm sold - I'll put it on the list. Extra button idea seems like a good one. TBH it could probably have the same icon as the button to the left of GRID (speaker + note), as it'll probably be self-explanatory that this one relates to the view above it, just like the existing one does.

I made a change late in the day so that READ defaults to on, meaning that it starts responding to new automation data as soon as it's added. However, your post has made me realise that the Default project template was created before I made this change, so the automation mode on any tracks which came from the default…

If you're using the External MIDI instrument there's also a THRU button on its setup page which might solve this problem. Probably better to turn local MIDI off on the MX88 as Will suggested though for a more general solution, which makes it behave more like a separate MIDI controller + MIDI instrument.

Thanks for the report, confirmation and notification! If they get in touch then I'm sure we'll be able to figure it out between us.

Yay Ian - I've now got a face to the name. You're the dog yeah?

Yes guilty as charged with the Bluetooth keyboard - an oversight on my part. It should be easy to get it working in an update (including space bar to start/stop transport, home to go to the start of the song etc.). The code's already in there but I must need to enable some other jiggery pokery to get the naughty thing to…

Yes, I've encountered this too and it relates to what Bram said. iOS dynamically changes the CPU clock rate based upon the load, but often the buffer has to overrun once before iOS thinks, 'crap, I better up my game!'. If you can get away with a little more latency then increasing the buffer size usually solves the problem…

Sorry about that, I'll 'fess up - this was my totally ham-fistedness making a manual change at the last minute! I'll try and get round to updating the pack soon as it should be a simple change. I decided not to automate the entire 3-band EQ as it started making the automation list a bit unwieldy and I wanted to keep it…

Yes, the Windows version's more an accident of the development rather than a fully fledged product!
-
Nice one Bram, you deliver the goods!

Not a global effect, but also worth trying one of the analogue filters (any one with a drive control basically) and and pushing it hard by turning up the oscillator outputs. Of course you can add more on top too with the filter's drive control. This sounds a bit more 'tape saturation' to my old ears.

I used a commercially licensed version of JUCE which is now about 6 years old and I've heavily modified it over time. I really just use its core stuff (eg. strings, file handling etc.) as I just can't get on with stl. You can do lots of stuff with stl and it's extremely extensible, but the JUCE equivalents are much easier…

Right now, MIDI FX are placed in series in the playback chain so it goes: MIDI from track / UI / external input -> MIDI FX 1 -> MIDI FX 2 -> MIDI FX n -> Instrument So although it's not recorded (which I realise people would like) I would definitely expect it to arpeggiate incoming MIDI notes and then pass out the…
