  • Thanks guys (and lasses?). I spend 80% of my time worrying about what I haven't done and the other 20% forgetting what I have done. My main regrets were not getting a chance to look at AU FX (automation, recording MIDI output etc.) but there's always a next time ... I planned on this being a smaller update but various…
  • The two sided job was more to do with some limitations on the size of buffers that VirSyn plugins can handle - I didn't do anything for the key sync issue. I also noticed flanging on the the first note (after the sequencer loops, typically) but didn't want to hassle Harry too much more otherwise he'll probably hate me.
  • Yes agreed - working through this stuff has cost a lot of time recently. Since NS2 is relatively new I have to start by assuming it's my problem and then reach out to the AU's developer if I'm not getting anywhere and that slows things down a lot. As time goes on then hopefully I can be increasingly sure it's less likely…
  • An update on this - it's taken some time as I've been working with the developer of Reslice (who's a busy man!) and he's successfully got to the bottom of the problem with key sync. He's given me a beta version of Reslice which seems to be working as expected. I don't know when they plan to publicly release this version…
  • Yes, they're a bit contradictory - some say they can't charge and hear audio, others say they can. But they helped to make the decision a 'no' on that one!
  • I took delivery of an iPad Pro 11" a couple of days back, but so far I haven't done much with it as it didn't come with a cable to connect to my Mac (which is USB-A) and didn't come with an adapter to connect my headphones, which crazily use a totally non-standard 3.5mm jack. I want to charge it, have it connected to my…
  • Hi @dflux This does sound like one of the symptoms which can occur with AU plugins not responding to the host's sample rate request correctly. I've just tried the iVCS3 Audio Unit instrument out on an iPad Air 2, and although I don't get any crackling sounds during real-time render I have found that the AU's pitch is…
  • Completely agree with what the others said @Zupi, these are excellent!
  • OK thanks guys. I'm going to demote this from 'completely screwed' (because I didn't know about Egoist's host sync options!) to 'possible minor issue'. I still haven't fully solved the sync issue with Reslice as I'm waiting on a developer at VirSyn to test something out (I don't want to hassle him right now because he's…
  • Presumably King's comparison using BM3 (where the timing issue doesn't occur) was performed using the same iPad Mini, so I don't think we can blame it on the device. Also, a slow UI update shouldn't usually affect the audio as they will be running on different threads, but that possibly may not hold true in really extreme…
  • I'm probably being stupid but isn't that how it's meant to work? I thought Egoist's 'Host Start' button would do that job. Dendy's also been trying this out on a slower device. He's found that the UI update can lag behind, but the actual audio's OK. Could that be what's going on there? Now that I've found out about…
  • Thanks, was half thinking of doing that myself. Then I thought no, that's proper OCD right there :)
  • Thanks for starting this thread and getting in touch with ElliottGarage @dendy. I've been very busy trying to nail down AU issues so I can gather as many fixes as possible into a release fairly soon so the help's very much appreciated. The most common issues I've seen with AUs are: * They work at the first sample…
  • I still can't get Reslice to play ball even with the changes I've made. It isn't happy when NanoStudio moves the song position to exactly to the start of the next note it should play (either via a user interaction, when the song loops whilst playing or at the start of the song). Seems to be worst when its arpeggiator is…
  • As the others have said, naming them according to the convention beforehand and then using the automap function is the quickest way to get multiple samples mapped right now. Also remember that you can import a zip file containing multiple samples and the app will unzip them for you - the zip file may contain a folder…
  • I half started a multiband compressor and then dropped it because the release date was falling so badly behind, but I'm hoping it'll still see the light of day at some point. Also got as far as thinking about an M/S EQ but ... well ... same story. I'm mainly eager to get the convolution reverb out as all the DSP's…
  • So just to ensure that we're on the same page here, I'm saying that I can't seem to get Egoist's host clock sync to work and you're saying that I've got to enable Egoist's host clock sync like I'm some sort of hopeless noob who doesn't know his arse from his elbow and doesn't take the time or care to RTFM? If so, I must…
  • I've made some changes to the area where NanoStudio passes beat info to Audio Units. These changes looked promising to me but they seem to have had no effect on Egoist's beat synchronization. I then tried Egoist in BM3 but I can't seem to get it to work there either. The symptoms seem the same - it follows the current…
  • NanoStudio currently runs the real-time project at 44.1kHz, and then resamples to the hardware's actual rate if necessary. The hardware rate is typically 48kHz on newer devices, but it may change depending upon the output device (eg. headphones vs. speaker). NanoStudio is capable of running the project at other rates but…
  • When it comes to timestretch, I'll definitely be licensing something. I'd probably have to disappear for at least 2 years to do it myself, and even then it wouldn't be as good as a more mature 'off the shelf' solution.
  • Hmm, so one person seems to have it working in BM3 and the other doesn't. OK, I'll first have a go at fixing the bit which looks suspicious and if that fails then I suggest we simply go down the route of trolling each other and maybe some insult slinging too. If one of those solutions doesn't work then we can't say we…
  • I've just been looking at the problem with Reslice's timing that @King also reported here: https://www.blipinteractive.co.uk/community/index.php?p=/discussion/418 ... I'm currently eyeing up a suspicious line of code which definitely would have something to do with downbeat syncing. I'll have a bash at modifying that first…
  • I just tried this in Cubasis but it seems to work the same as NanoStudio - Egoist tracks the tempo OK, but doesn't attempt to sync the beat. Egoist's cursor always just marches on and never steps its position when the song position is changed. Am I being thick? Approaching it from a different direction, are there other AUs…
  • Yes I noticed this myself the other day and have made a note to investigate. The intention was that they should be alphabetically ordered, I've just screwed something up. My guess was that AUs which have been installed later were being added to the end of the list rather than inserted at the correct place, but it's only a…
  • Yes, it is due to AU automation. NanoStudio listens to AU parameter changes and marks the project as modified if a parameter is changed (eg. via the AU's own editor UI), since this potentially has an effect on the sound of the project- same as changing a parameter in Obsidian. The problem is that the same parameter changes…
  • Listening to some of those vids posted by @tom_tm, my suggestion to get a similar sound would be to use resampling: * Make a 2-3s sample (eg. by recording from those videos, or using a mixdown to resample a note or chord from an existing Obsidian patch) * Load that sample back into an Obsidian oscillator and set the sample…
  • That gnome looks like he packed that pipe with a lot of green.
  • Well done, first person to notice this deficiency. I thought someone would notice it much sooner. It's definitely on my radar - some sort of 'track automation moves with edits' option.
  • Maybe the manual? https://www.blipinteractive.co.uk/nanostudio2/user-manual/AudioAndMIDIFiles.html
