  • I have Audulus3 but I have not thought of it in the normal plugin respect. I’ve followed the Audulus3 Forum for a while and they’ve been discussing AUv3 for Audulus3; I would hope that it would be in Audulus4 too... https://audulus.trydiscourse.com/t/audulus-auv3-is-in-beta-now/760
  • wow - Hammerhead... I had almost forgotten about that. Need to dig up my old Win98ME floppies.
  • The reply I got was “AUv3 still does not officially support MIDI plugins” and that they were working on it.
  • OK - good to know that I wasn’t crazy. But, having the inter-track MIDI send with transpose and note range would be amazingly powerful when combined with arpeggiators and line/chord generator AUv3 MIDI FX plugins. It would almost be a super-MIDI-effect all on its own and with Obsidian’s low CPU usage, you could generate a…
  • Hi @dendy I tried stacking 2 Obsidian synth tracks as u described, with a parent track and 2 child tracks, with some notes added to the parent track. It does send the midi to the 2 child tracks but the transpose does not happen, and the note range doesn’t work. Here is a video showing the midi send to 2 child tracks and…
  • Cheers everyone! @dendy might even break open that bottle of absinthe he’s been saving all these years... ;)
  • I know that the auto map wav naming stuff is in the Obsidian docs, but I didn’t see the 3-osc-3-zone trick above. I was wondering if you might pin a “Power User Tips And Tricks” forum topic that could include stuff like this? - I’ve seen similar tips on other threads, especially using Slate to trigger long audio samples,…
  • I just left a request for it in a Review on the App store; said that it would be nice to have both options as Synth and/or MIDI FX app.
  • Yeah, Infinite is pretty amazing in allowing inter-harmonic bin shifts, and the fact that Wavegenerator can pump tables into Infinite is really cool. I’ve been having mixed results using photo images to generate tables from pixel rows and columns and my theorem that optical illusions would generate the best tables got shot…
  • Ahhhhh. Gotta remember that for next time.
  • iPad Pro 12.9, tested with NS2 idle each experiment is just one track of the synth Worst: Moog Model15: one track of Arpeggiated Hard Pluck = 18% Audio CPU Moog ModelD: 15% CPU, consistent Aparillo: 10% CPU Best: PPG Infinite and WaveGenerator: 0% CPU Arturia iSEM: 0% CPU Need more AUv3 synths :o (actually just need the…
  • I read this too but also not sure how real it is. I also heard it may only be removed from iPhones, but that is also just a guess/rumor. I hope they do not remove this as it is another step in a good direction of responsive touch surfaces.
  • OK, got it working with MIDIFlow (needed to remap MIDI channel as it looks like Riffer is CH1 output only) as a connection test; but still have sync issue (start/stop) and that will have to wait until a future update (unless I’m missing some other trick).
  • The app is called Link To MIDI and there is another one called MIDI Link Sync
  • Yeah - but I’m not trying to be authentic either... :) On the other hand, that limitation might be a good arrangement motivator. But I do kind of like the squonk sound at the end too...
  • If anyone is interested, you can get a free sample pack of the Mellotron - every note is sampled but there are no loops and you can hear the “squeak” at the end of the tape sample (this may or may not be good). I’ve got these and they sound good and are well-recorded but I would like to get sustain-loops going in them.…
  • @dendy - ahh OK. That is very helpful! I was going to ask about in-app MIDI routing but was trying not to be needy... Thanks! As long as you’re here, I have another question: several of my AU MIDI plugins have MIDI-learn. Is there a way to MIDI-learn/map them to the assignable knobs in Obsidian, or the automation channels?…
  • Pretty sure he’s got blisters on his fingers and some kind of caffeine thing, or other thing, going on there
  • +1 I’m with @mrwilson, with a new Logitech Slim (the keys are way better than my 2yr old MacBook Pro - yuk) and I would use QWERTY -> MIDI note events, as well as shortcuts and the space bar (in fact, I’ve hit the space bar out of habit a few times with NS2)
  • Boom! Exactly. It is a fun problem to solve, and definitely “scratches an itch” that a lot of us have. You know, figuring out a way to do it, just because.. I just don’t want to have to do MusixPro -> MIDIFire -> apeMatrix -> AudioBus -> blah blah -> AudioShare, then import that into a pad in Slate, just to trigger the Ski…
  • LOL - yeah...I’m not holding my breath for that to happen. But my tangled mess isn’t that bad - I’ve seen some crazy implementations being discussed too (apeMatrix and AUM and Audiobus and MIDIFire and . . . wait, what key are we in??)
  • Really appreciate your work on this! I was thinking about this flow (let me know if this is overthinking or not do-able). 1) in NS2 use the External MIDI Instrument too send MIDI to non AUv3 apps (eg NS2 -> iWavestation) 2) Wavestation output -> AudioBus -> NS2 Audio Input 3) Record in NS2 - the Wavestation audio is…
  • I like the idea of using things for their strengths rather than trying a million kludges to get something to fly, just so you can say you kept it in one box, so that looks like a smart workflow you got going. Oh man, I hear you. Gadget especially is hard to kill, but I almost never use it any more and I’m still infatuated…
  • I’m now in a mode of streamlining and simplifying these days, so less is more. Remember Cakewalk 2.0 with the blue-dots? Or Musicator GS? As primitive as it was, I think the workflow was simple and straightforward and I keep thinking maybe my output was greater because of it. Trying to get back to that state of mind (of…
  • Not from where I’m sitting either. I don’t think there is even a remote comparison with Cubasis in terms of speed, stability, ease of workflow, and the like. I don’t even have Cubasis installed on my new iPad Pro, and when NS2 gets audio tracks and MIDI start/stop sync, I’ll be deleting Auria from this one too, and only…
  • Just to be clear, in my experiments with GeoShred as a MIDI controller, I’m not using it in NS2 as an AU; I’m running it externally as a stand-alone app, the same way as I use MusixPro so it should just be another MIDI input source (and it shows up in NS2 on the MIDI input panel for Obsidian). That one has me puzzled...
  • I had not tried GeoSynth with NS2 until today after updating to the latest version. As cool as its patches are, I generally only use it as an advanced MIDI controller. I am unable to get Obsidian to respond to GeoShred’s MIDI output. GeoShred does show up in the MIDI Input list, and it does send MIDI (verified with…
  • FWIW: first, I could not replicate this crash and I’ve also been using the Model15; I did try a bunch of strategies to replicate, including very fast switching from the MIDI editor to the main panel and arp panel. I did notice the apple spinning wheel (activity monitor) very briefly while the editor window opened but I…
  • Have you guys checked out Apple MainStage? It has an auto-sampler feature that can sample your hardware synths, and has multiple options for setting loop points in multisamples (see the review in Sound on Sound mag). I haven’t gotten it yet (I never even knew the autosampling and multi-sample loop options were available…
