Basically, in the song editor, press draw to create a part (whatever number of measures) then double press that part and press draw again and start placing notes on the part editor grid. Use the drag handles to move the notes around or adjust their lengths. Unselect Draw will make it easier to move notes, and you can also use copy/paste to place a bunch of notes. Pretty easy and intuitive once you get into it.

yes, how to do that on NanoStudio 2 ?

This is already possible. Do you have a question about it?
I think @midimark7 is asking for something I would also like to see, step input with a keyboard. I don’t recall seeing it in any of the iOS DAW’s.
I had that function in my old Ensoniq ESQ-1. Very simply, you could put it in “step record” mode, set the resolution, and then play in notes with the keyboard. Then you could press ‘stop’, preview and save or re-record. It was great for basslines and arps. The ESQ-1 sequencer was as fun and easy to use as NS2.
No way! I knew you had good taste. In the 90’s my main workstation was an Ensoniq SD-1! I still have it, ….in a case, mostly ignored. I didn’t get that he was asking for keyboard step entry. That was good for the 90’s, but it is so much faster and easier using the piano grid with duplicate and drag handles. I suppose we all come at any DAW expecting to do what we have done before, but putting in the time to learn NS2 seemed easy and intuitive to me.
Oh, thanks for the great comments. Yes, looking for SH-101 type of step input. Hit record, press one note at a time from the touch keyboard, and it puts in each note as a 1/16 note or whatever. You hit stop, then each note is played in time, like an arpeggio. It's easier than using the draw tool to put in notes.

Maybe other apps would do this. Have you tried MIDIStep?
midiSTEPs is a really fun app, and I think may be the one you're referring to.
I thought I had better mention though that there's a new app called MidiStep that's far more complex. I don't own it and can't tell from the App Store description if it has step input or not. There is a detailed series of videos from the developer on it though.
I fooled around with the Art Kerns version recently and it was pretty good. I've used it before and there was something about it that bothered me workflow-wise but I'm not sure what it was. Maybe it was just me at the moment?!
I have Paul's version but haven't had time to give it a proper go. Maybe some time over the holiday!

This part of the manual will answer a lot of your questions:

I didn’t know there were two apps so similarly named. I’ve heard one or both mentioned on the AB/Loopy forum, but I haven’t tried either.

OK, thanks for the research... just trying to make step input simple without so many steps... no pun intended!
